Weather Forecast - 9/30

Isn't it great how the situation tends to change? Well, it did. Schweitzer is now projected for 3 to 5 inches Monday, with 1 tonight, and 1 to 2 Monday night. In total, that's 5 to 7 inches. Snow is projected all week for the summit of the resort. That's a darn good start if you ask me!

Tonight: Periods of snow, mainly after 11pm. Low around 28. Southwest wind between 11 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Monday: Periods of snow showers, mainly before 11am. High near 37. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Monday Night: Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind between 14 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: Periods of snow. High near 38. Breezy, with a west wind between 16 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

I just found this hazardous weather outlook for the Cabinet Mountains
where Schweitzer is located.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

A MOIST PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL TRACK INTO THE OKANOGAN
HIGHLANDS BY LATE MORNING AND INTO NORTH IDAHO LATE THIS
AFTERNOON. THIS SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE OCCASIONAL RAINFALL WITH SNOW
OVER THE HIGHER MOUNTAINS. SNOW LEVELS ACROSS THE AREA WILL RANGE
FROM AROUND 5000 FEET IN THE OKANOGAN HIGHLANDS TO OVER 6000
FEET IN NORTH IDAHO. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS AT AND ABOVE THESE
ELEVATIONS COULD REACH 2 TO 4 INCHES. THIS MAY IMPACT TRAVEL ALONG
SHERMAN PASS IN CENTRAL FERRY COUNTY...WHILE MAINLY RAIN WILL FALL OVER
THE OTHER MOUNTAIN PASSES.

West wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

So, this forecast is calling for 4 to 9 inches of snow between now
and Monday! We'll keep you posted, and think snow!

Weather Forecast - 9/29

With the recent snowfalls Schweitzer has been experiencing, there is no doubt that winter is in the air at the resort. Here is a forecast for the next few days.

TONIGHT: Chance of snow, low around 27.

TOMORROW: Snow, heavy at times. Accumulation around 1 inch. High around 36.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Snow. Accumulation 1-2 inches. Low 28.

MONDAY: Snow. High around 37.

Schweitzer, Again

Snow at Schweitzer

Schweitzer has been blessed by the snow gods so far, with 3 snowfalls in September. Here are photos of their most recent snowfall, last night.This photo was taken by the Selkirk Powder Company webcam just after the snow began to accumulate.

Snow at Chewelah Peak

Well, sure, it's not a new picture of Schweitzer, but news of snow from ant ski resort is encouraging, don't you think? These are photos of snow at 49 Degrees North Ski Area in Chewelah, WA. They got a visible amount of snow, and it, along with Schweitzer's, made the local news. More posts later.

Another snowy morning

Today marks the second snowfall at Schweitzer, judging by the picture above. The Selkirk Powder Co. images are very reliable for these sorts of images - they update every two are three seconds. It looks like two or three inches of the white stuff. Keep checking back as the increasingly frequent Schweitzer snow showers turn to blizzards. THINK SNOW!

FIRST SNOW

Schweitzer have received its first snow... on SEPTEMBER 20th! This is one of the earliest snows in recent years at Schweitzer. Schweitzer has an image posted, temporarily at the left (it will change when Schweitzer changes it). By the looks of it, they received up to an inch of snow. The top shows up to three inches. We'll keep you posted as more and more snow falls at the mountain!

This week has been full of news from other ski resorts, and it's only Tuesday! Here are the latest headlines circulating around the interwebs.

• Breckenridge and other Colorado ski resorts recieved their first measureable snowfall on Monday.
• Loveland Ski Area in Colorado is set to start snowmaking tomorrow.
• The first towers are springing up for the Peak to Peak gondola at Whistler/Blackcomb.

The Changing Face of Schweitzer Mountain Resort

As you can see, the face of Schweitzer Mountain Resort is changing. The mountain is being improved. The resort is rebranding. As we get ready for the upcoming season, pose yourself the question: Is Schweitzer really changing? We will have more on this topic later, but think about it. We will ask for your answers after the first month of the ski season (prizes?). For now though, we have time to get ready. Think about the question as we get ready for the season.
